DESCRIPTION:THE GRANDE PIANO SHOW\nEDMONTON\nOCTOBER 26\n8:00 P.M. \nTriffo Theatre\nMacEwan University\n130\, 11110 104 Avenue NW\nEdmonton\, AB\n\nHailed by the Chinese press as “Canada’s Prince of Piano\,” pianist and composer MARTIN MAYER has been performing on sold-out concert tours of China since 2001. After many years of bringing his unique blend of instrumental fusion\, classical crossover\, and smooth jazz music to audiences abroad\, Martin brings his show back to Edmonton for a homecoming concert you won’t want to miss! \n\nA NIGHT OF ORIGINAL MUSIC\n“The Grande Piano Show” starts with Martin’s original music\, including the award-winning latin piece “Europa Boulevard”\, a tribute to Canada in “Cabin by the Lake”\, foot-stomping rhythms in “Irish Dancer” and a heartfelt throwback to his classical training in “Reverence.” \n…WORLD-FAMOUS SONGS\nWe then incorporate world-famous songs that Martin has enjoyed playing for audiences in many concerts\, including Broadway classics such as “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables\, the themes from “Phantom of the Opera” and “Chess”\, and scores from “Pirates of the Caribbean”\, “Games of Thrones” and of course “Jurassic Park.” \n\n…AND CLASSIC CHINESE HITS!\nAnd no Martin Mayer show would be complete without a few classic Chinese hits to round out the evening\, include “Liang Liang” (涼涼)\, “Love is Like a Tide” (愛如潮水)\, “Thin Red Line” (扎红头绳) “New Dream of Butterflies” (新鸳鸯蝴蝶梦)\, the “Butterfly Lovers Concerto” (梁祝) and “Meet” (遇⾒見)\, among others. \n\nA PORTION OF PROCEEDS BENEFITING MUSICOUNTS\nMusiCounts\, Canada’s Music Education Charity\, puts instruments into the hands of kids that need them the most.  Martin is proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from this concert to MusiCounts.  You can also add a donation amount to your tickets\, and 100% of the amount you choose will go directly to MusiCounts! \n\nPresented by\nBACKBONE\n\nSponsored by\nCKUA RADIO\nVUE WEEKLY\nLEXUS OF EDMONTON\nMICHAEL LIPNICKI FINE PIANOS LTD. \n\nProduced by\nMARTIN MAYER MUSIC INC.

SUMMARY:Workshop with Artist in Residence Florence Yee
DESCRIPTION:During Florence Yee’s last workshop as Artist in Residence\, participants will be asked to reimagine an entrance for the Chinese-Canadian diaspora. Through a comparison of Montreal’s and Edmonton’s Chinatown gates\, Yee will discuss gentrification\, tourism and self-Orientalism. \nAbout the Artist\nFlorence Yee is a 2.5 generation\, Cantonese-struggling visual artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal\, unceded Mohawk territory. Having graduated from her BFA at Concordia University\, she works with community groups for visual culture\, such as articule and La Centrale\, both artist-run centres\, and the Ethnocultural Art Histories Research group (EAHR). Her interest in Cantonese-Canadian history has fueled an art practice committed to dismantling institutional and casual ideals of Eurocentric patriarchy\, as well as examining the daily life of her diaspora.
