DESCRIPTION:Sitting times:\n1:15 am – Ozawa Pavilion\n12:45 pm\, 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm – Ikoi no ba \nExperience Japanese culture in a unique setting. Traditional tea offerings are hosted at the Ozawa Pavilion\, an authentic Japanese Tea House\, or in the adjacent Ikoi no ba (a “cozy place to gather”)\, both overlooking the tranquil Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Japanese sweets and tea are provided to guests\, as well as an explanation of the tea ceremony. \nFree guided tours of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden will also be offered several times on this date – a wonderful opportunity to learn about the fascinating history and symbolism behind this special garden. \nAdvance ticket purchase is recommended for this popular event.  \nTicket information\nThe tea ceremony is presented by the Matsukaze Chanoyu Association (Wind in the Pines Tea Association)\, a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the tradition of the Japanese tea offering. Tickets are paid directly to the volunteer group (cash only at the door\, or online at the Matsukaze Chonoyu Association website in advance). SUMMARY:Dragon Boat Festival - Telford Lake in Leduc
DESCRIPTION:August 17 – 19\, 2018\n\n\n\n \nFriday\, August 17\, 2018 \nJoin us for the traditional Blessing of the Boats on Friday evening at Telford Lake (4801 44 Street\, Leduc AB) starting at 6:30 pm. The ceremony will be held on the docks. \nThe racing begins Friday evening with the Grassroots and Novice Cup races where novice teams will experience their first dragon boat race! This friendly competition starts the race component of the festival at 7:30 pm. The Grassroots division consists of teams that do not have more than two experienced paddlers in the boat and the Novice division consists of teams that have a minimum of eight new paddlers. They are racing for glory!  This is a great evening for family\, friends\, non-paddlers and paddlers of all ages and skill levels to unite and join together in celebration of this ancient sport. \nSaturday August 18\, 2018\nThe recreational semi-competitive races commence on Saturday morning. The race schedule is randomly drawn with teams racing three lanes for 500 meters. The festival’s cultural opening ceremonies will be held at 12:00pm at the main stage. The opening ceremonies will feature cultural entertainment. Racing resumes with competitive races following the opening ceremonies. Once the last race on Saturday has commenced\, have fun in the beverage gardens at the Paddler Party! Prizes will be awarded and this is a minor friendly event. \nSunday August 19\, 2018\nThe competitive spirit ‘Rips up the River’! The combined race times from Saturday’s results determine Sunday’s schedule. The competitive spirit rises on Sunday! Teams unite with their coaches and steers person to focus on what skill it will take to win the gold medal. Semi-final races start at 9:00am and afternoon finals at 1:00pm. \nThe competitive races adjourn at 12:00pm on Sunday to observe and cheer the Pink Ribbon Challenge race sponsored by the Edmonton Breast Friends Dragon Boat Racing Team. Each year visiting teams and local breast cancer survivor teams gather in celebration of strength and determination of courageous survivors generating awareness and hope in a dragon boat. Following this intense race\, The Pink Ribbon Ceremony begins with a walk of cancer survivors and pink carnations tossed into the water. The ceremony is a beautiful tribute and memory to those touched by cancer. \nOn Sunday afternoon\, the final category races draw a crowd of spectators and comrades anxious to cheer their favourite team! Her interest in Cantonese-Canadian history has fueled an art practice committed to dismantling institutional and casual ideals of Eurocentric patriarchy\, as well as examining the daily life of her diaspora. DESCRIPTION:Sitting times:\n1:15 am – Ozawa Pavilion\n12:45 pm\, 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm – Ikoi no ba \nExperience Japanese culture in a unique setting. Traditional tea offerings are hosted at the Ozawa Pavilion\, an authentic Japanese Tea House\, or in the adjacent Ikoi no ba (a “cozy place to gather”)\, both overlooking the tranquil Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Japanese sweets and tea are provided to guests\, as well as an explanation of the tea ceremony. \nAdvance ticket purchase is recommended for this popular event.  \nTicket information\nThe tea ceremony is presented by the Matsukaze Chanoyu Association (Wind in the Pines Tea Association)\, a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the tradition of the Japanese tea offering. Tickets are paid directly to the volunteer group (cash only at the door\, or online at the Matsukaze Chonoyu Association website in advance). The ticket price helps to offset the cost of imported tea and sweets. The choice is yours. If you prefer to design your own evening\, without participating in any activities\, that’s just fine. The Garden Bar will be open\, serving wine and beer. You can bring your own picnic (no BBQs or alcohol\, please) purchase a light meal at the outdoor Patio Café\, and breathe in the quiet tranquility of the Garden in the twilight.
