SUMMARY:Shi Le Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Shi Le is a professional artist and an art educator. He received a bachelor’s degree in fine art at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute of China and a Master’s at the University of Waterloo. Shi Le has been teaching fine arts in various post-secondary institutions including Lakehead University\, Queen’s University and the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.\nShi Le’s landscape painting depicts scenes of pastoral beauty formed around immediate surrounding in South Ontario. Through his painting\, he is re-interpreting the tradition of Canadian landscape painting. To him\, “landscape is a recreation of the moment in memory that captures my emotion in response to the truthfulness of nature. From Creek series to the inner woods and grass land\, the personal response and understanding to my surroundings are central. Through a palette knife-stroke and flat brush-stroke\, I hope to reactivate on the canvas the fascination that the landscape of Ontario has drawn on me.” \nHis paintings have been exhibited in Canada since 1992.

SUMMARY:Chinatown Youth Committee Strategy Session
DESCRIPTION:Our Chinatown Youth Committee Strategy session will be on Sunday\, October 26th from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Breakfast and snacks will be served. It will be held at the Chinese Benevolent Association (9645 101A Ave). \nOn behalf of the Chinese Benevolent Association\, I would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in the future vibrancy of Chinatown and the Edmonton Chinese community to join us in what I hope will be a robust discussion/strategy session. \nWe will explore the role young people can play\, not only in the revitalization of Chinatown\, but in the City of Edmonton as representatives of the Chinese community. At previous meetings\, many of you have emphasized the importance of unity and the bringing together of the many diverse facets of the Chinese community. There was also a strong consensus that young people should have a visible role in Chinatown and the greater Chinese community. This will be your chance to help define what our role should be and how we can move forward from discussion to action.\nI hope you will be able to join us. As this will be a team effort\, feel free to invite anyone you know who would be interested. \nIn the next week or so\, our facilitator will be sending out short survey questions in preparation for the half-day session. That way\, everyone can participate in some way\, even if you’re not able to make it to the event. For food and planning purposes\, please RSVP by October 24th to nathanip@gmail.com.
