Chinese & Indigenous Youth Anti-Racism Workshop

February 19, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

CBA (Chinese Benevolent Association) Youth Council is hosting an Anti-Racism Workshop with Enoch Cree Nation on Saturday, February 19 from 2-5 pm  Mountain Time

Overall:
This short one-day conference will bring together youth from
Edmonton’s Indigenous and Chinese communities to share conversations
on racism and building relationships between the communities. Elders
and activists from both backgrounds will share their knowledge and
guide youth participants to think of tangible improvements that they
can make to support their community and combat racism in Edmonton.
Special focus will be put on the experiences and potential future
cooperation of Edmonton’s Chinese and Indigenous communities.

Looking Back:
This session will focus on educating youth on the challenges faced by
our communities and the history of leadership from Chinese and
Indigenous Edmontonians. Speakers will share their knowledge and
experiences on racism and resistance, and show the importance of
continued action from youth.

Looking Forward:
This session will focus on teaching youth about successful efforts to
strengthen the Chinese and Indigenous communities, and potential
connections and cooperations between the two groups. Participants will
be guided through brainstorming ideas for what they can do (projects
or everyday habits) to combat racism and work for a better future.
